Making sure your kids are cool in the car during summer isn't only a matter of personal comfort. Children are more prone to extreme temperatures than grown-ups, so the effects of being overheated can be severe. So, when you're planning your family's excursion this summer or just taking the car to run shopping with your family, you'll discover these suggestions for keeping your vehicle cool.
1. Use a sun-shade for a baby's seat.
You've seen sun shades for cars, of course. They're usually silver and are placed on the top of your dashboard to shade the interior of your car as you shop for groceries and so on. There are now baby sun shades. The principle is similar. Install this simple shade cover on top of the baby's seat during times when it's not being used. The cover will help keep the baby's seat cool and will prevent the plastic from getting hot in the sun and the baby's hands from burning when you secure him.
2. Make sure your car's windows are tinted.
It's obvious that the windows are the main place where sunlight's rays enter and warm the car. While driving, the sun's rays on the baby's side can cause sunburn, or at the very least discomfort, and higher temperatures. While many parents choose the suction cup-style window shade for their windows, these aren't always efficient. When you drive, or as the sun's rays move over the sky, these shades aren't complete protection.
The permanent window tinting option is the best alternative. Window tinting can be installed at an automotive dealer at the cost of a small amount. In accordance with the laws of the state you live in, you might not be able to the windows on the front and rear tinted. However, it's the side windows that you're worried about regardless. Tinted windows can reduce interior temperatures by a significant amount.
3. Make sure your car's AC is maintained.
Every spring, you should get your car's AC system tested. If there's no leak, it should have plenty of coolants to help the air conditioning function. However, other issues can cause airflow issues. Make sure your mechanic checks your filters and make sure all the switches operating are working properly. Place one of the vents on the sides towards the back of the seat to allow your children to experience some cool airflow.
4. Bring ice water with you.
If you are planning an extended road trip, take an enormous water jug that is filled with ice cubes and water. The frozen cubes will begin to melt enough in the heat; however, they'll help ensure that the water stays cool. Ensure that your children drink plenty of fluids to stay refreshed and hydrated. Also, make sure to top up with cold water every time you stop at mini-marts in gas stations.
Be sure not to let your child be alone in the car, not even for a brief moment. It's easy to get lost in the clock when you're running errands, and those minutes can be vital.
